Prosecutor General Kravchenko submitted his resignation

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Kravchenko announced on the evening of September 7 that he had submitted his resignation. This occurred against the backdrop of the NABU and SAP investigation 'Carthage', one of the figures in which was a high-ranking employee of the Prosecutor General's Office.

Kravchenko reported about his decision in Telegram.

Thus, Kravchenko himself initiated the termination of his powers. However, submitting a resignation does not yet mean that he has been dismissed from office — for the personnel procedure to be completed, appropriate decisions must be made.

Earlier on September 7, the prosecutor general told journalists that he did not consider it necessary to resign on his own. At the same time, he said he was ready to leave the post if the relevant decision were initiated by the president or adopted by the Verkhovna Rada.

On the same day, it became known about a meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Kravchenko, and the head of the Servant of the People faction Davyd Arakhamia, at which, according to media reports, the continued tenure of the prosecutor general was discussed.

What is known about the 'Carthage' case

The resignation comes amid a large-scale investigation by NABU and SAP into an alleged criminal organization that, according to investigators, received money from fraudulent call centers and laundered the proceeds.

One of those detained was Serhiy Kropiva, deputy head of the International Cooperation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office. The High Anti-Corruption Court placed him in custody with an alternative bail of 120 million hryvnias.

Kravchenko himself previously denied any involvement in covering up illegal call centers. He stated that he did not give instructions to facilitate such activities and did not use his powers as prosecutor general for that purpose.

After the investigation began, Kravchenko also announced the suspension of a Prosecutor General's Office employee involved in the case and the preparation of personnel decisions. In addition, the possible dismissal of several other prosecutors was being considered.

Kravchenko has held the post of prosecutor general since June 2025. Before that, he headed the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, and earlier worked in the prosecution bodies.
