Major state bank entered for currency and turned the dollar upward
On Wednesday, September 9, the National Bank set the following official exchange rates: - US dollar – UAH 44.4694 (+UAH 0.004 to the official rate on Tuesday, September 8); - euro – UAH 51.6383 (-UAH 0.0434 to the official rate on Tuesday, September 8).
The rates were set at 16:00 on September 8 and reflect the following trends:
1. On the interbank currency market, during the first half of the trading session, trading was in a narrow range of UAH 44.40-44.47 on the "bid" position. The average transaction price at 12:00 was UAH 44.4526 - 8 kopecks lower than the day before. Around 12:30, one of the largest state banks entered the market with large purchase orders. The market situation instantly changed: a supply-demand imbalance emerged. Although the National Bank compensated for the shortage of currency, it did not sell cheaply; as a result, by the close, quotes rose to UAH 44.635 on the "bid" position. Nevertheless, the average transaction price increased by only 1.5 kopecks compared to the daily one, so the NBU almost did not change the official dollar exchange rate for Wednesday.
2. The euro on the international FOREX market today traded in a narrow range of 1.1608-1.16359 dollars. At the time of fixing, the euro was sold at 1.16121 dollars – 10.8 points lower than on Monday (1.16229 dollars). Given the almost unchanged official dollar exchange rate, the NBU lowered the official euro exchange rate for Wednesday by 4.3 kopecks.
Cash dollar price tags after lunch reacted to the growth on the interbank market and also began to rise. By evening, in Kyiv, the dollar rose by 5 kopecks compared to Monday evening, in Kharkiv – by 9 kopecks, in Dnipro – by 2, and in Lviv – by 6 kopecks compared to yesterday's prices. Only in Odesa did the dollar fall today: local operators attribute the drop in demand for cash currency to today's strike on the largest market "7th kilometer."
