Nikolaev and Kherson community completely left without power
On the evening of September 8, Nikolaev and the Kherson community were left completely without electricity. The causes of the large-scale outage are still being investigated by specialists, and the authorities have not yet announced the timeline for restoring power supply.
The outage was reported by the mayor of Nikolaev, Alexander Senkevich, and the head of the Kherson city military administration, Yaroslav Shanko.
According to Senkevich, electricity disappeared throughout Nikolaev. The relevant services have begun to determine the cause of the emergency, and the authorities promised to provide additional information after receiving data from power engineers.
Due to the power outage, tram traffic in Nikolaev has stopped. Trolleybuses equipped with autonomous operation up to 20 kilometers continue to run on the routes.
Almost simultaneously, problems with electricity supply arose in Kherson. Shanko reported a complete absence of electricity in the Kherson community. Specialists are also establishing the causes of the outage.
At the time of the first reports, the authorities of neither Nikolaev nor Kherson named the Russian strike as the cause of the current power outage. Therefore, it is premature to link the two simultaneous outages to an attack or damage to a specific energy facility.
Kherson energy system works under difficult conditions
At the same time, the energy infrastructure of Kherson has been repeatedly hit by Russian strikes in recent months. Local authorities previously reported serious damage to critical infrastructure and lengthy emergency-repair work. Due to the scale of the destruction, in some cases energy workers could not give exact dates for the full restoration of power supply.
The head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Alexander Prokudin, also reported that after previous strikes, the situation with the city's energy sector worsened on the eve of the heating season.
In Nikolaev during the day on September 8, separate planned outages were in effect related to repairs, network reconstruction, and preparation of energy infrastructure for the autumn-winter period. However, the evening blackout in the entire city was separately noted by the mayor as a situation whose causes are being established by specialists.
As of the time of publication, there is no information about the time of full restoration of electricity supply in Nikolaev and the Kherson community.
