Meta launched a personal AI agent for everyday tasks
Meta launched a personal AI agent Muse that can independently perform tasks on behalf of the user: send emails, book trips, fill out forms, make purchases and work with other online services.
The company announced the launch of the new product on September 8. At the first stage, Muse becomes available to users in the US through separate apps for iOS and Android, a web version, and directly in WhatsApp.
Unlike a regular chatbot, Muse is designed not only for answering questions. The user can give the agent a task or a long-term goal, after which the system forms a plan and independently performs individual steps.
For example, Muse can open a browser, fill out an online form, find and book a trip, prepare and send an email, make a shopping list or try to negotiate a bill reduction for a certain service.
The agent is able to continue performing a task even after the app is closed. For sensitive operations, such as sending emails or making purchases, the system must receive user confirmation.
Muse got access to external services
The user determines which apps and services Muse connects to and what rights to grant it. The agent can work with email, calendars, payments, stores and other online services.
For payment, Meta integrated the Link system from Stripe. During a purchase, it can create a one-time card so as not to transmit the real bank card details to the store. In the future, the company plans to add support for Shop Pay and 1Password.
At the core of Muse is the Muse Spark model. For each user, Meta launches a separate cloud environment Muse Secure VM with its own browser. The company claims that the agent itself does not see passwords or payment details, and its internet access is additionally controlled by a separate system, Sentinel.
Meta also states that conversations with Muse and information in its virtual environment are not transmitted to the company's advertising systems. The user can opt out of using their interactions for training Meta's models.
Active users will have a paid subscription
Basic use of Muse will be free. According to TechCrunch, at launch Meta will also offer two plans with higher limits - Power for $20 per month and Maximum for $100 per month.
Meta expects that the free version will be enough for most users. In the future, Muse is also planned to be integrated into the company's AI glasses.
The launch of Muse means a transition for Meta from traditional AI assistants to autonomous agents, to which users can delegate not only queries, but also the execution of real actions in digital services.
