Kyiv shopping malls switch to new work regime during alerts

From September 10, some shopping and entertainment centers in Kyiv changed their operation during air alerts. At the yellow threat level, some complexes will continue to admit visitors, while at the red level they will close.

The new rules have already been officially announced by the DREAM, RETROVILLE, and RIVER MALL shopping centers. TSUM Kyiv also confirmed the transition to a work regime based on the level of air threat.

At RETROVILLE, at the yellow alert level, the shopping center continues to operate. Stores that voluntarily agreed to work in this mode remain open, while each tenant can independently close if they consider the situation unsafe. Visitors make their own decision whether to stay in the shopping center.

At the red level, RETROVILLE closes, and visitors and employees must leave the premises and proceed to a shelter. If the alert starts or continues after 9:00 PM, only the NOVUS hypermarket and the checkout area work—with the consent of tenants—while the shopping center itself opens the next day.

RIVER MALL also continues to operate at the yellow level. The administration recommends that visitors not ignore the alert and use the temporary shelter on the minus second level of the underground parking or the nearest shelter outside the complex. At the red level, RIVER MALL operations are suspended.

DREAM also informed visitors about updated operation rules during air alerts. The procedure depends on the established threat level and decisions of individual tenants.

The changes are related to Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 1092 of September 4. Under the new rules, air threats are divided into two levels. Yellow means a threat of drone attack, and red means a missile, missile-drone, or massive drone threat.

At the yellow level, business can continue to operate in buildings and on territories where there is permanent or temporary shelter for employees and visitors. If there is no shelter, work is temporarily allowed with the agreement of the labor collective—for a period not exceeding three months from the entry into force of the resolution. The visitor decides independently whether to remain indoors during the yellow level.

The new approach is applied not only in the capital. The Lviv shopping center Victoria Gardens also reported the transition to work depending on the level of air threat.
