The dollar began to get cheaper: analysts named the exchange rate range before the NBU meeting
For Friday, September 11, the National Bank set the following official exchange rates: - US dollar – 44.5526 hryvnias (-0.0936 hryvnias to the official rate for Thursday, September 10); - euro – 51.7643 hryvnias (-0.2262 hryvnias to the official rate for Thursday, September 10).
The rates were set at 16:00 on September 10 and reflect the following trends:
1. On the interbank foreign exchange market, immediately after the start of trading, quotations went down even without the efforts of the National Bank, and by 12:00 reached the level of 44.61 hryvnias on the "bid" side. The average price of transactions at 12:00 was 44.6060 hryvnias - 3 kopecks lower than the day before. After lunch, the NBU increased the pace of its interventions, which accelerated the decline in quotations: by the close of trading, the non-cash dollar had fallen to 44.44 hryvnias on the "bid" side. The average price of transactions fell even lower than at lunch, so the NBU was forced to lower the official dollar exchange rate for Friday by 9.4 kopecks.
2. The euro on the international FOREX market today fell to 1.1592 dollars after the release of US statistics showing an increase in the producer price index above the forecast level. This led to a temporary strengthening of the dollar against other leading world currencies, including the euro. At the time of fixing, the euro was sold at 1.16187 dollars – 26.3 points lower than yesterday (1.1645 dollars). Given the decrease in the official dollar rate, the NBU also lowered the official euro rate for Friday by 22.6 kopecks.
Prices for cash dollars decreased following the decline on the interbank market. By evening in Kyiv, the dollar became cheaper by 3 kopecks compared to Wednesday evening. In Dnipro, the dollar became cheaper by 2 kopecks, in Kharkiv – by 7, and in Lviv and Odesa – by 8 kopecks. As we can see, yesterday's expectations of cash market operators, voiced to the "Course of Ukraine" portal, turned out to be correct.
According to the portal's analysts, in the next seven days before the regular meeting of the NBU board on monetary policy, at which the issue of changing or maintaining the discount rate will be decided, the National Bank will continue to keep the exchange rate stable in the range of 44.40–44.80 hryvnias. Any significant changes are possible no earlier than the beginning of the third decade of September.
