NBU keeps the dollar in a narrow range ahead of rate decision
On Monday, September 14, the National Bank set the following official exchange rates: - US dollar – 44.5483 UAH (-0.0043 UAH to the official rate on Friday, September 11); - euro – 51.6386 UAH (-0.1257 UAH to the official rate on Friday, September 11).
The rates were set at 16:00 on September 11 and reflect the following trends:
1. On the interbank currency market, in the first half of the trading session, trading was in a narrow range of 44.535-44.565 UAH. The average transaction price at 12:00 was 44.5523 UAH - 5.4 kopecks lower than the day before. After 12:00, demand on the interbank market increased, and quotes briefly rose to 44.60 UAH on the "bid" side, but the National Bank responded by stepping up the pace of interventions, and quotes quickly began to fall. By the close of trading they fell to daily lows. The average price decreased slightly, so the NBU lowered the official dollar rate for Monday by only 0.5 kopecks.
2. The euro on the international FOREX market traded in a narrow range of 1.1592-1.1618 dollars in the first half of the day, and at 15:30 Kyiv time fell to 1.1569 dollars after the publication of US statistics showing consumer price index growth above the forecast level. This led to a short-term rise in the dollar against other major world currencies, including the euro. At the time of fixing, the euro was selling at 1.15916 dollars – 27.1 points lower than yesterday (1.16187 dollars). Therefore, the NBU lowered the official euro rate for Monday by another 12.6 kopecks.
Price tags for cash dollars changed very slightly and in different directions today. By evening in Kyiv, the dollar rose by 1 kopeck compared to Thursday evening, in Lviv – by 2 kopecks, while in Odesa – on the contrary, it fell by 2 kopecks. In Kharkiv and Dnipro, dollar price tags in wholesale exchange offices remained unchanged.
Let's remind the forecast announced yesterday by analysts of the "Kurs Ukrainy" portal: until September 17, when the next NBU board meeting on monetary policy issues (at which the issue of changing or maintaining the discount rate will be decided), the National Bank will continue to keep the exchange rate stable in the range of 44.40-44.80 UAH. Any significant changes are possible no earlier than the beginning of the third decade of September.
