President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks honored the memory of the victims and expressed condolences to the American people.

The head of state said this on social media.

Zelenskyy expressed support for the United States and the families of those killed in the largest terrorist attack in the country's history.

The attacks occurred on September 11, 2001. Nineteen al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four passenger planes. Two aircraft crashed into the World Trade Center towers in New York, another into the Pentagon near Washington. The fourth plane, whose passengers attempted to resist the hijackers, crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The attacks killed 2,977 people, not counting the terrorists. Thousands of people subsequently faced illnesses related to the aftermath of the World Trade Center collapse.

On September 11, 2026, events are being held in the US to mark the 25th anniversary of the tragedy. Main memorial ceremonies are organized in New York, at the Pentagon, and at the crash site of United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.
