Trump announced mutual refusal of Ukraine and Russia to strike energy facilities

US President Donald Trump said that Ukraine agreed not to strike Russian energy facilities, and Russia allegedly undertook a similar commitment regarding Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

The American president wrote about this in a post on his social network Truth Social on Monday, September 14.

"Ukraine has agreed not to strike Russian energy targets. Russia has agreed to do the same", – Trump stated.

The US president did not specify when and in the framework of which negotiations this agreement was reached. He also did not name its duration and did not report which exact facilities the parties agreed not to attack.

In the same message, Trump linked the situation to world diesel fuel prices. According to him, the current rise in diesel prices is mainly related to the Russian-Ukrainian war, not the conflict around Iran.

The statement concerns one of the key issues of recent US negotiation initiatives. Ukraine regularly carries out long-range strikes on Russian oil refineries and other fuel and energy complex facilities, viewing them as infrastructure that supports the Russian military machine and budget revenues of the Russian Federation.

Russia, in turn, systematically attacks Ukrainian energy infrastructure. The issue of mutual refusal from such strikes becomes especially sensitive on the eve of the autumn-winter period.

As recently as September 10, the Kremlin publicly rejected the possibility of an energy truce. Then Vladimir Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow is not considering a mutual refusal to strike energy facilities. Thus, Trump's statement, if an agreement was indeed reached, means a change in the position that the Russian side voiced just a few days ago.
