Bus traffic through "Shehyni - Medyka" is changing at the border with Poland

From September 20, the movement of passenger buses through the "Shehyni – Medyka" border crossing point on the border of Ukraine with Poland will change. Buses traveling from Ukraine to Poland will be redirected to three alternative border crossing points due to repair work on the Polish side.

The Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine reported this.

The changes are related to the repair of infrastructure on the Polish side of the "Shehyni – Medyka" border crossing point. According to the Polish side, the new traffic arrangement is expected to be in effect approximately until November 2027.

Three alternative border crossing points have been designated for buses traveling from Ukraine to Poland:

• "Smilnytsia – Krościenko";
• "Nizhankovychi – Malhowice";
• "Krakovets – Korczowa".

The changes will also affect regular international bus routes whose current schemes provide for crossing the border through "Shehyni – Medyka".

Such carriers will be able to register in the "eCherha" system for crossing the Ukrainian-Polish border through "Smilnytsia – Krościenko", "Nizhankovychi – Malhowice" and "Krakovets – Korczowa". This will allow them to continue operating existing routes without having to completely suspend trips due to the repair.

The ministry urged carriers to take the changes into account when planning trips and to adjust routes in advance.

Repair of bus infrastructure on the Polish side of "Shehyni – Medyka" began back in the summer. Initially, the Polish side planned to stop processing buses entering Poland from June 15 and maintain the restrictions until the completion of work approximately in November 2027.

However, after negotiations between the Ukrainian and Polish sides, the introduction of the full restriction was postponed for the summer period. In June, the countries also agreed that regular international transport permits issued for routes through "Shehyni – Medyka" can be used when crossing the border through alternative points "Nizhankovychi – Malhowice" and "Smilnytsia – Krościenko".

Now, from September 20, the scheme is changing: buses heading from Ukraine to Poland through "Shehyni – Medyka" will be redirected to other border crossing points.

For passengers, this means that bus companies may change the route and the actual point of crossing the Polish border. At the same time, the international service itself may continue to operate on schedule with the new border crossing point taken into account.
