President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Colonel of the Medical Service Konstantin Humeniuk as commander of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Prior to his appointment, he held the position of chief surgeon of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The relevant decree No. 910/2026 was signed by the head of state on September 14.

"To appoint Humeniuk Konstantin Vitaliyovych as commander of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine", – states the document.

By another decree on the same day, Zelensky dismissed the previous commander of the Medical Forces, Anatoliy Kazmirchuk. The reasons for the personnel decision are not specified in the decrees.

Humeniuk is a colonel of the Medical Service and chief surgeon of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He has many years of experience organizing surgical care for military personnel directly in combat conditions.

In 2017, Humeniuk was the chief surgeon of the Anti-Terrorist Operation forces, and in 2018-2019 – chief surgeon of the Joint Forces Operation. He also met Russia's full-scale invasion at the front and continued to work with forward surgical teams, mobile military hospitals, and military medical centers.

As chief surgeon of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, his area of responsibility included the entire surgical service of the Armed Forces – from forward surgical teams and mobile hospitals to military medical clinical centers in various regions of Ukraine.

In August 2026, Humeniuk presented the experience of Ukrainian military medicine at the international symposium Military Health System Research Symposium in the USA. In particular, the Ukrainian delegation presented approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of modern combat trauma, which were developed and implemented based on the experience of the full-scale war.

Humeniuk has also repeatedly stated that the nature of combat injuries during the current war has changed significantly due to the massive use of drones, artillery, and other means of destruction. According to him, this requires the development of new methods of surgery, evacuation, and provision of care to the wounded directly near the line of combat operations.

The Command of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is responsible for organizing medical support for the Armed Forces, treatment and evacuation of the wounded, operation of military hospitals and medical units, as well as development of the military medicine system.
