Trump Demands Other Countries Compensate US for War Costs Against Iran

US President Donald Trump has said that states that did not help Washington during the war with Iran will have to compensate the United States for related costs after the conflict ends. The American leader believes that the US ensures the safety of oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz primarily in the interests of other countries.

Trump wrote about this on September 14 on the social network Truth Social.

The US president noted that oil continues to be transported through the Strait of Hormuz despite the war and continuing risks to shipping.

According to him, other countries provide almost no help to the United States in ensuring the security of the most important sea route. Trump said that after the conflict ends, Washington intends to seek compensation for the expenses incurred.

The American president, however, did not clarify from which specific states the US plans to demand money, how much Washington expects to receive, and what legal or political mechanism could formalize such compensation.

Thus, for now this is a political demand by Trump, not an agreed international scheme for sharing military costs.

The Strait of Hormuz is crucial for the global energy market. It carries oil and liquefied natural gas from Persian Gulf countries, so shipping disruption after the start of the war has become a major factor putting pressure on global energy prices.

The US maintains a military presence in the region and provides protection for shipping. Trump has repeatedly stressed that, in his opinion, the costs of securing international trade routes should not fall mainly on American taxpayers.

The current statement continues this line. The US president asserts that Washington spends resources on ensuring the security of other states to a greater extent than for its own needs, and expects to change this approach after the war ends.

Trump also connects the restoration of normal oil traffic through the region with a possible reduction in world fuel prices. However, the timing of the end of the war with Iran and the terms of a possible settlement remain uncertain.
