The PGO denied the suspicion served on the NABU Director after Kravchenko's statement
Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau Semen Kryvonos has not received a notice of suspicion, despite the statement by the dismissed Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko. The entries in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations related to the alleged acquisition by Kryvonos of the procedural status of a suspect have already been cancelled.
The Prosecutor General's Office reported this on the evening of September 14.
Thus, the PGO actually clarified the procedural status of Kryvonos after Kravchenko's sensational statement, who announced in the morning that he had signed a notice of suspicion to the NABU Director.
Kravchenko claimed that the document was prepared on the basis of materials of criminal proceedings and registered in accordance with the established procedure. Later, he also published the text of the document he had signed.
However, even in the morning, NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office stated that no procedural documents had been officially served on Kryvonos. The anti-corruption bodies emphasized that the public statement of the Prosecutor General alone does not mean the NABU Director has acquired the status of a suspect.
Now this position has been confirmed by the Prosecutor General's Office as well. The agency reported that Kryvonos had not received a notice of suspicion and that the relevant entries in the Unified Register were cancelled.
Kravchenko had previously stated that he suspected the NABU Director of several criminal offenses. Among the accusations voiced by him were possible forgery of official documents and episodes related to illegal benefits. Kryvonos and NABU denied these accusations.
The conflict unfolded against the background of the NABU and SAPO operation "Carthage", within the framework of which possible cover-up of a network of fraudulent call centers by representatives of the prosecutor's office is being investigated. After the development of this investigation, Kravchenko submitted his resignation.
On September 14, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also dismissed Kravchenko from the post of Prosecutor General. On the same day, the relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada supported the motion for his dismissal. The final decision must be made by the parliament.
Thus, the statement by the Prosecutor General's Office on the evening of September 14 changes the procedural part of the morning story: the document signed by Kravchenko did not lead to Kryvonos officially receiving a suspicion, and the related records in the Unified Register were cancelled.
