General Staff confirms strikes on Syzran refinery and drone factory in Taganrog (Updated)
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine officially confirmed strikes on the night of September 15 on the Syzran oil refinery of "Rosneft" in Samara region and the "Atlant Aero" enterprise in Taganrog, which produces drones for the Russian army. At the refinery, the primary oil refining unit and tank farm were damaged. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also reported a strike on a drone preparation and launch site in Oryol region and hits in the Black Sea.
The results of the strikes were reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to the General Staff, on the night of September 15, units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck JSC "Syzran Refinery" in Samara region of Russia.
On the territory of the enterprise, hits were recorded with subsequent fire. The attack damaged the primary oil refining unit AVT-6 and the tank farm.
The Syzran refinery is part of "Rosneft" and has a refining capacity of about 8.9 million tons of oil per year. The enterprise produces gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel and other petroleum products.
The General Staff emphasized that the plant is also involved in meeting the needs of the Russian army.
Military drone manufacturer struck in Taganrog
The second officially confirmed target was the "Atlant Aero" enterprise in Taganrog, Rostov region. On its territory, explosions and a fire were recorded after the strike.
According to the General Staff, "Atlant Aero" specializes in the production of unmanned aerial vehicles and components for them.
In particular, the enterprise produces strike-reconnaissance drones "Molniya", as well as components for Russian UAVs "Orion". The plant's products are used to supply Russian troops with unmanned systems.
Thus, the official statement of the Ukrainian command clarified one of the key targets of the night attack on Taganrog.
Initially, the attack was reported by Russian officials and OSINT analysts
On the morning of September 15, information about the targets and consequences of the strikes came mainly from Russian regional officials, Telegram channels and OSINT analysts.
In particular, the governor of Samara region claimed an attack by more than 40 drones and damage to an unnamed industrial enterprise. Astra, using geolocation of witness videos, determined that the fire occurred specifically on the territory of the Syzran refinery. In the published footage, one of the fire sources was in the tank farm area.
In Taganrog, Russian authorities reported fires, damage to warehouse and commercial infrastructure, including an Ozon marketplace warehouse, a gas pipe and buildings.
Monitoring channels then assumed that among the possible targets could be other industrial and aviation facilities of the city. In particular, a version was put forward about the Taganrog Aviation Scientific-Technical Complex named after Beriev.
However, subsequently the General Staff officially named among the damaged objects precisely the "Atlant Aero" enterprise. The Beriev complex is not mentioned in the message of the Ukrainian command.
Also at night, explosions were reported in the area of the cement plant "Sebryakovcement" in Volgograd region, but this object is not mentioned in the new message of the General Staff.
Zelenskyy reported two more targets
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that, in addition to the Syzran refinery and the drone production enterprise in Taganrog, the Defense Forces achieved targets at the site of preparation and launch of Russian drones in Oryol region.
According to him, there were also hits in the Black Sea. The president did not provide details on the objects damaged there.
Zelenskyy linked these strikes to Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy, logistics and critical infrastructure.
"Russia does not stop striking our energy, ordinary logistics and critical infrastructure. And our responses to them for this are tangible", - stated the president.
General Staff clarified consequences of another strike on an oil refinery
Simultaneously, the General Staff reported new results of the attack carried out on September 13 against the oil refinery "Slavyansk ECO" in Slavyansk-on-Kuban, Krasnodar region of Russia.
After analyzing additional data, the Ukrainian military confirmed the destruction of three and damage to eight more tanks of the enterprise.
Thus, within a few days, the Defense Forces confirmed strikes on several objects of Russian oil and military-industrial infrastructure.
