Kyiv Oblast gas stations to receive real-time data on air target movement

Fuel filling complexes in Kyiv Oblast will gain access to a special digital air awareness system used by the Defense Forces. Responsible gas station employees will be able to receive real-time information about the movement of Russian air targets and respond to threats earlier.

This was announced by Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Oblast State Administration.

The decision was made by the Kyiv Oblast Defense Council, and its implementation will be coordinated by the Kyiv Oblast Military Administration (KOVA). The name of the system and its technical characteristics are not disclosed by the authorities.

According to Tkachenko, access to the system will allow responsible gas station employees to see current information about air target movement and make faster decisions regarding gas station operations during Russian attacks.

Thus, gas stations will be able to rely not only on the general air raid alarm signal but also on information about a specific threat. KOVA expects this will allow taking necessary measures in advance to protect staff and visitors.

The decision was another step in strengthening the security of fuel infrastructure. On September 8, the Kyiv Oblast Defense Council already ordered a review of gas station operating rules during air raid alarms. In particular, gas stations must be provided with clear action algorithms, check warning systems and access to shelters for employees and drivers.

In addition, the authorities demanded the regulation of vehicle movement and parking on gas station premises to prevent congestion near fuel tanks and ensure free passage for rescue, medical and military vehicles.

The tightening of measures comes amid frequent Russian attacks on fuel infrastructure. Tkachenko noted that recent strikes show gas stations and other facilities in this sector are also under threat.

At the national level, a similar initiative was announced on September 12. Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi said after a meeting with fuel market operators that the government is testing a software solution that can determine the movement direction of Russian drones and automatically warn gas stations of approaching threats.

After testing at fuel filling complexes, similar tools are planned to be provided to other types of businesses. The Cabinet of Ministers is also discussing additional protective structures at ground infrastructure facilities and the arrangement of shelters for people.
