Zelensky appoints new commander of Signal and Cyber Security Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Brigadier General Oleksiy Kovalenko as commander of the Signal and Cyber Security Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The relevant decree No. 931/2026 was signed by the president on September 15.
“To appoint Kovalenko Oleksiy Oleksandrovych as commander of the Signal and Cyber Security Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” — the document says.
No other personnel decisions or reasons for the appointment are specified in the decree.
Kovalenko has relevant experience in the field of military communications and cyber security. He previously headed the Heroes of Kruty Military Institute of Telecommunications and Information Technologies, which trains specialists in communications, information technologies and cyber security for the Armed Forces.
In addition, Kovalenko has already served as acting commander of the Signal and Cyber Security Troops. In 2023, ArmyInform presented him as the acting commander of this branch of troops.
The Signal and Cyber Security Troops are responsible for the functioning and protection of military communications systems and information and communication infrastructure, as well as carrying out tasks in cyberspace.
