Who will become the new Prosecutor General: sources have named likely candidates
It has become known that among the main candidates for the position of Prosecutor General of Ukraine are the heads of the Khmelnytsky and Dnipropetrovsk regional prosecutor's offices. This is according to sources in political circles, according to Українська правда.
According to the interlocutors, they are referring to the head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional prosecutor's office Valery Prikhozhanov and the head of the Khmelnytsky regional prosecutor's office Anton Kovalsky.
According to the sources, it is more likely that the prosecutor's office will be headed by Anton Kovalsky.
The website of the Khmelnytsky prosecutor's office reports that he is originally from Vinnytsia, and worked as deputy prosecutor of the Vinnytsia region.
From September 2020 to October 2021, he held the position of deputy head of the Vinnytsia regional prosecutor's office, and from November 2021 – head of the Chernivtsi regional prosecutor's office.
From July 1, 2025, Kovalsky was appointed to the position of head of the Khmelnytsky regional prosecutor's office.
What preceded this:
- Against the backdrop of the NABU and SAPO investigation into the "protection" of call centers, Ruslan Kravchenko submitted a resignation letter from the position of Prosecutor General.
- At the same time, on September 14, the Prosecutor General stated that he signed a suspicion notice for NABU Director Semen Kryvonos and accused NABU and SAPO of seizing materials from proceedings against their employees during searches as part of the special operation "Carthage", in order to suspend procedural decisions on these cases.
- Sources of "Ukrainska Pravda" in law enforcement agencies reported that Kravchenko went abroad in an official car on the night of September 14. The Prosecutor General also issued a statement saying he went on a business trip.
- According to the order, a copy of which was obtained by UP, Kravchenko sent himself to Paris for 5 days "to participate in PACE hearings on the issue of Ukrainian children". However, he is not listed in the agenda of speakers at this event.
- President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed to the parliament with a request to urgently support the resignation of Prosecutor General Kravchenko.
- On September 15, the president signed a decree dismissing Ruslan Kravchenko from the post of Prosecutor General.
