Ukraine is preparing a series of meetings with partners in the United States as part of President Volodymyr Zelensky's upcoming visit to New York. The Ukrainian and American teams are separately working on a possible meeting between Zelensky and US President Donald Trump.

Zelensky announced this on September 16 in an evening address, noting the preparation of contacts with American partners.

On the same day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine confirmed that the teams of the two countries are working on the possibility of a meeting between Zelensky and Trump and its substantive content.

"The teams are indeed currently working on the possibility of such a meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and the US, its content, to make it as substantive as possible," said MFA spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi.

Zelensky is expected to visit New York during the high-level week of the UN General Assembly. The general debate of the 81st session of the General Assembly will begin on September 22.

The American program of the Ukrainian delegation will not be limited to possible talks with Trump. According to the MFA, contacts are planned with members of the US Congress, representatives of American business, and the Ukrainian community.

In addition, dozens of bilateral meetings with foreign leaders are expected for Zelensky. In particular, Ukraine and France have already agreed on a meeting between Zelensky and President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the General Assembly.

One of the central topics of the Ukrainian-American talks should be the further diplomatic process to end the war. Previously, Zelensky said he intends to discuss with Trump possible agreements on mutual cessation of strikes on energy infrastructure, as well as security issues.

Ukraine declares readiness for an energy truce provided that Russia also stops attacks on relevant facilities. At the same time, Zelensky emphasized that there is currently no agreement on such a regime.

Another direction of the talks remains military support for Ukraine, in particular strengthening air defense, supplies of interceptor missiles, and further work on joint defense programs with the US and European partners.

The upcoming trip to New York will be a continuation of a series of contacts between Ukraine and the Trump administration. In early September, representatives of the US President Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Kyiv, where they discussed with the Ukrainian side possible further formats of the negotiation process.
