The market value of the American processor manufacturer Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) surpassed $1 trillion for the first time in history on September 21, amid a sharp rise in the company's shares and a general rally among chip makers. This was reported by Bloomberg.

During trading, AMD shares rose by about 9% and reached a record $613.92. This was enough for the company's capitalization to briefly exceed the $1 trillion mark. To consolidate above this level, the share price must remain above about $612 per share.

AMD became the fourth American semiconductor manufacturer to cross the $1 trillion threshold, after Nvidia, Broadcom, and Micron. Just a year ago, the company's market value was about $255 billion — since then it has grown almost fourfold.

AMD's growth is taking place against the backdrop of a new rally among semiconductor companies. Intel shares rose more than 10% on Monday, Arm about 15%, Qualcomm about 4%. The PHLX Semiconductor index of semiconductor companies climbed about 3%.

Investors continue to increase their bets on manufacturers of artificial intelligence equipment. AMD is seen as Nvidia's main competitor in the market for graphics accelerators for data centers, but at the same time benefits from growing demand for EPYC server central processors, which are used together with GPUs in training and operating AI models.

An additional driver is the spread of AI agents capable of autonomously performing a large number of user tasks. Such services increase the volume of computations during inference — the actual work of already trained models, which raises demand not only for graphics accelerators, but also for traditional server processors.

In recent months, AMD has been accelerating the transition from selling individual processors to supplying integrated AI infrastructure. The company is developing the Helios platform, new Instinct MI400 accelerators and EPYC server processors, and is expanding cooperation with major technology companies, including Meta, Microsoft and Anthropic.

Financial results already reflect this growth. In the second quarter of 2026, AMD's revenue increased by 50% year over year — to a record $11.5 billion. The data center division accounted for 58% of the company's total revenue, with sales more than doubling compared to last year.

AMD's net profit for the quarter reached $2.3 billion, up from $872 million a year earlier. Company CEO Lisa Su said demand for AI computing power continues to grow rapidly, and AMD expects to accelerate sales of data center solutions in the second half of the year.
