Applications open in Italy for home EV charger compensation

In Italy, the application process for government compensation for the purchase and installation of home charging stations for electric vehicles began on September 22. The program covers up to 80% of eligible expenses.

This was reported by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT). The application window opened at 12:00 on September 22 and will last until 12:00 on January 31, 2027.

For individuals, the maximum compensation amount is €1500. If the charging infrastructure is installed in common areas of an apartment building, the limit increases to €8000. In both cases, the state compensates no more than 80% of the costs.

The program can be used by individuals who are residents of Italy, as well as condominiums. Thus, it is potentially also available to Ukrainians living in Italy who meet the established residency requirements.

In 2026, compensation applies to charging equipment whose installation was completed starting from June 26. For this period, the state has allocated €15 million. Overall, the multi-year program to support home charging infrastructure is designed until 2030, and its funding is €68 million.

It is not only the charging station or wallbox itself that can be compensated. Eligible expenses include installation, necessary electrical and construction work, monitoring systems, design, technical supervision, safety checks, testing, as well as costs for a new connection to the electricity grid.

The charging station must be new, located in Italy, and comply with the established technical requirements. For an individual, it must be used exclusively privately and not available for public use. In an apartment building, the equipment must be intended for shared use by residents.

To receive compensation, expenses must be documented and paid in a traceable manner. The program does not include compensation for equipment purchased with third-party funding.

Applications are submitted online through the Invitalia platform. To log in, you need SPID, the electronic identity card CIE, or the national service card CNS. The applicant also needs an active certified email address PEC.

Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis, and support is provided within the available funding. If funds run out, MIMIT must separately notify about the depletion of the program budget.
