Kyiv presented to EU countries the results of European integration reforms

Ukraine presented to the European Union countries the current progress in implementing reforms and commitments within the framework of EU accession negotiations. As of September 15, 114 European integration draft laws were at various stages of consideration in the Verkhovna Rada.

This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Vsevolod Chentsov during a meeting on September 22 in Brussels with representatives of the Council of the EU Working Party on Enlargement (COELA).

According to Chentsov, Ukraine is moving to the stage of practical implementation of a large array of commitments undertaken within the negotiation process. For this purpose, the government and the Verkhovna Rada are strengthening coordination, jointly determining legislative priorities and planning work in accordance with the National Program for the Adaptation of Ukraine's Legislation to the EU Acquis.

A separate block of negotiations was devoted to rule of law reforms. Among the priorities, the government names criminal procedure, independence and institutional capacity of anti-corruption bodies, reform of the prosecution service, selection of judges, ensuring integrity of the judiciary, and anti-corruption policy.

Ukraine also continues to work jointly with the European Commission on the implementation of interim benchmarks of the negotiation process. The government notes that it is not only about adopting laws, but also about monitoring the implementation of reforms and timely resolution of problems that could slow down the negotiations.

Another area was commitments in the field of protection of the rights of national minorities. The Cabinet of Ministers has updated the relevant action plan: steps in the field of education should be implemented by the end of 2026, while changes related to the language sphere and political rights are planned for 2027.

Earlier, Ukraine reported that it had completed the necessary technical work for the further opening of negotiation clusters. In July, Ukraine and the EU officially opened negotiations on Cluster 6 "External Relations", and Kyiv expects to continue opening the next negotiation areas after agreement by the EU member states.

The COELA Working Party brings together representatives of the EU member states and deals with the enlargement of the Union and countries negotiating membership. It is at this level that member states discuss technical and political aspects of the negotiation process before further decision-making in the Council of the EU.
