Russia struck Ukraine's data centers: Sybiha named the goal of the attack
Russia during a massive attack on September 23 struck major Ukrainian data centers, trying to disrupt the flow of information. This was stated by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha.
According to the head of the Foreign Ministry, such infrastructure is of particular importance because through it Ukrainians receive critically important information, including operational warnings about missile and drone threats. Such notifications allow people to respond to danger in a timely manner and take shelter.
Sybiha emphasized that data centers are civilian critical infrastructure and do not relate to military facilities. In his assessment, Russia is trying to find new ways to destabilize everyday life in Ukraine.
The consequences of strikes on telecommunications infrastructure have already been felt by residents of Kyiv and Kyiv region. The Ministry of Digital Transformation reported that approximately 100,000 households experienced problems with internet access. Specialists are assessing the damage and carrying out repair work to restore stable network operation.
Thus, it is not only about physical damage to equipment. Disruption of data center operations can affect users' access to the internet and digital services, and in the conditions of Russian air attacks, stable exchange of information has additional importance for the safety of the population.
Sybiha also reported that as a result of Russian strikes on the night and morning of September 23, two people died and more than 40 were injured. Against the backdrop of the attack, the minister called on Ukraine's partners to increase sanctions pressure on Russia and increase supplies of missile defense systems.
According to him, strikes on civilian information infrastructure should not become a new norm, and strengthening air and missile defense remains one of the key ways to reduce the consequences of Russian attacks.
