Zelensky: This Winter "General Frost" Could Play Against Russia

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that this winter weather conditions could play against Russia if the Russian army continues to strike Ukrainian energy infrastructure and heating systems.

The head of state said this on September 23 during his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York. Speaking about the possible consequences of continued Russian attacks, Zelensky used the historical image of "General Frost."

According to the president, Russian authorities have traditionally viewed harsh winter conditions as a factor that historically helped Russia during wars, but now the situation may change. Zelensky linked this directly to possible new strikes on Ukrainian energy and heating infrastructure.

"None of the Russian officials could imagine that 'General Frost', who fought on Russia's side for centuries, would one day go over to the side of those defending themselves from it," — Zelensky said.

He added that such a scenario is possible as early as this winter if Russia continues attacks on Ukrainian energy and heating.

Earlier, Zelensky repeatedly stated that Ukraine is ready to respond to strikes on its energy system. On September 11, the president said that in the event of attempts to organize large-scale blackouts, Ukraine would try to strike back at Russian energy infrastructure. At the same time, he emphasized that Kyiv does not aim to create humanitarian catastrophes.

At the same time, Ukraine offers Russia a mutual cessation of strikes on energy facilities. After talks with US President Donald Trump in New York, Zelensky said that Kyiv is ready for such an "energy truce" if Moscow stops attacking Ukrainian power grids, heating systems, and water supply. The American side, according to him, should convey this proposal to Russia.

Ukrainian authorities are also preparing for a possible intensification of Russian air attacks in winter. During the meeting between Zelensky and Trump, the sides discussed a separate winter air defense package for Ukraine and further work on the production of interceptor missiles for Patriot systems.

Thus, Zelensky's statement at the UN became a warning about a possible Ukrainian response, rather than a weather forecast or an independent claim about the consequences of cold for Russia. Kyiv simultaneously offers to mutually cease attacks on energy and declares readiness to respond in case such strikes continue.
