Zelensky: Ukraine agrees on new package of missiles for Patriot

Ukraine has reached an agreement on the transfer of a new package of missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this during a meeting with representatives of the Ukrainian community in the USA.

According to the head of state, the agreement was reached on September 23, but he did not specify which country will provide Ukraine with the missiles and how many interceptors will be included in the package.

“We agreed today, I will not say with whom, on a package of missiles for Patriot systems. This is an important decision,” Zelensky said.

The President noted that a series of meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York made it possible to achieve additional agreements in the defense sector. In total, the Ukrainian delegation held about 20 meetings with leaders of other states.

On the same day, Zelensky met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. One of the central topics of the talks was providing Ukraine with interceptor missiles for Patriot and forming a support package for air defense for the winter period.

Zelensky emphasized that Patriot remains a key means of countering Russian ballistic missiles. According to him, Ukraine has already gained significant experience in intercepting cruise missiles and drones, but to protect against ballistic missiles, a sufficient stock of missiles for American systems is critically necessary.

The issue of Patriot supplies was also discussed during the meeting of the Presidents of Ukraine and the USA Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump on September 22. Then the Ukrainian side reported that the teams of the two countries continue to work on the possibility of producing interceptor missiles for Patriot directly in Ukraine.

At the same time, Kyiv is negotiating with European partners about additional air defense systems and ammunition for them. In particular, Ukraine and France discussed the transfer of additional SAMP/T systems and missiles, as well as joint work on the production of air and missile defense means.

Zelensky did not name specific deadlines for the transfer of the new package of missiles for Patriot. The types and number of ammunition that Ukraine should receive are also not yet disclosed.
