Trump and Xi discussed Ukraine at talks in the White House

US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping discussed the situation in Ukraine, the Middle East, and the Korean Peninsula during talks at the White House on September 24. This was stated in an official statement by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the meeting.

The Chinese side did not provide details of this part of the conversation and did not specify whether Trump and Xi discussed concrete proposals for ending the war in Ukraine. The statement only noted that the leaders "exchanged views" on these international and regional issues.

As CNN reported, the Middle East part of the talks separately concerned the US war with Iran. Xi said that China supports the return of Washington and Tehran to the 14-point memorandum agreed in June and expressed hope for an early resumption of negotiations.

Another key topic was Taiwan. Xi called on the US to oppose the island's independence and to approach the Taiwan issue cautiously. Trump and Xi also discussed artificial intelligence and stated the need to continue dialogue on the development of the technology and its associated risks.

CBS News notes that this is Xi Jinping's first visit to the White House in more than ten years. The talks took place amid a continued trade truce between the US and China, and among the key international issues surrounding the meeting, the American outlet named Ukraine, Iran, and Taiwan.

Following the talks, Beijing also reported that Trump and Xi agreed to mutually support the holding of the APEC and G20 summits in 2026. The parties expressed their intention to continue economic and trade dialogue.
