Poland assessed possible meeting between Nawrocki and Putin at G20

President of Poland Karol Nawrocki's circle said that Vladimir Putin's possible appearance at the G20 summit in Miami would create a difficult situation for European leaders. At the same time, Warsaw points out that the Russian President's participation has not yet been confirmed.

The head of the International Policy Bureau of the President of Poland Marcin Przydacz said this on Polsat News.

According to him, the Polish side does not like the very prospect of inviting Putin to international forums. However, Russia remains a member of G20, while Poland received an invitation to the summit from the host country — the United States.

Przydacz was asked how Nawrocki would act in the event of a direct meeting with Putin, in particular whether he would shake his hand.

The representative of the Polish President did not give a direct answer, noting that such a situation would become a problem not only for Nawrocki, but also for other European leaders.

“Everyone in this group will have a problem with this — be it the Chancellor of Germany, the Prime Minister of Great Britain, the President of France, and certainly the President of Poland”, — he said.

At the same time, Przydacz emphasized that so far it is only about Putin's invitation, and it is unknown whether the Russian President will come to the summit in Miami.

Separately, the representative of Nawrocki's office commented on the possibility of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's participation. According to him, unofficial talks indicate that this option is being considered.

Przydacz believes that in the case of preparation for new negotiations to end the Russian-Ukrainian war, the G20 summit in Miami could become a suitable platform for such contacts.

Poland has recently also been trying to strengthen its presence in the G20 format. Nawrocki's office reported that Warsaw expects not only to participate in the group's meetings, but in the long term to achieve permanent membership.
