Government extends fixed gas prices for households until spring 2027

The Cabinet of Ministers has kept the current preferential prices for natural gas for households and thermal energy producers until March 31 - in fact until the end of the 2026/2027 heating season. Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi announced this on his Telegram channel.

According to him, the decision was made taking into account the current moratorium on tariff increases during martial law and the difficult socio-economic situation. At the same time, the government, together with other authorities, is working on changing the tariff policy and transitioning to more targeted assistance to consumers who need it.

For household customers of GC "Naftogaz of Ukraine", gas currently costs UAH 7.96 per cubic meter including VAT, excluding distribution costs. The "Fixed" tariff plan with this price is valid until April 30, 2027. At the same time, the price of UAH 7.96 per cubic meter has actually not changed for more than five years: customers of "Naftogaz" began to be transferred to the "Fixed" tariff from May 1, 2021. This is stated on the company's website.

After the start of the full-scale war, the number of consumers at this price increased sharply. From May 1, 2022, 8.8 million households that were previously served by a number of regional suppliers were transferred to "Naftogaz". A price of UAH 7.96 per cubic meter was also set for them.

A separate mechanism applies to thermal energy producers. Within the framework of special obligations on the gas market, the resource for the production of heat and hot water for the population is supplied at UAH 7,420 per 1,000 cubic meters including VAT. For the production of heat for budgetary institutions, the fixed price is UAH 16,390 per 1,000 cubic meters. Transportation costs are added separately to the cost of gas for heat producers. Such conditions are given on the "Naftogaz" website.

This mechanism is based on Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 812 of July 19, 2022. The price of gas for the production of heat for the population at the level of UAH 7,420 per thousand cubic meters was tied to the level that was in effect as of February 24, 2022. In the spring of 2026, the government already extended the special supply conditions until September 30, and now they are maintained for the next heating period.

Thus, for household consumers it is important to distinguish between two figures: UAH 7.96 per cubic meter is the retail gas price under the "Fixed" tariff for "Naftogaz" customers, while UAH 7.42 per cubic meter is the special price of the gas resource for heat producers for the needs of the population.
