SBU warns of massive fake pages of government agencies: more than 50 resources blocked

The Security Service of Ukraine has recorded a significant intensification of Russian special services, which create fake websites, social media pages, and messenger channels that outwardly resemble official resources of Ukrainian government bodies and media. SBU cyber specialists have already detected and blocked more than 50 resources that copied the design of the special service itself.

The SBU reported this on Monday, September 28.

According to the agency, such pages are used for several tasks at once. Through them, Russian special services spread disinformation and conduct information and psychological operations, trying to influence the situation inside Ukraine and its positions abroad. At the same time, fake resources are used to obtain personal and confidential data of citizens.

The SBU claims that attackers try to gain access to user accounts that interact with fake pages on social networks and messengers. Information collected in this way can later be used by Russian special services for recruiting people and obtaining additional data.

Of particular interest to Russian special services, according to the SBU, is data related to the work of Ukraine's Defense and Security Forces. Therefore, the agency urges not to transfer information about military facilities, units, consequences of attacks, and other potentially sensitive information to unknown persons.

One of the signs of a fraudulent resource may be an attempt to copy as accurately as possible the design of a government institution: its name, logos, brand colors, and structure of the official page. Therefore, a familiar appearance of a website or account does not itself confirm its authenticity.

Users are advised to check the website address and account name, as well as to go to pages of government bodies through their official websites or verified channels. The SBU separately urges not to open suspicious links received in personal messages, even if the sender is presented as an employee of a government agency.

Earlier, the special service also warned about another scheme of Russian special services — attempts to recruit Ukrainians “under a foreign flag.” In such cases, attackers may pose as employees of Ukrainian government bodies or law enforcement agencies and demand to perform a certain “task.”

The SBU emphasizes that the agency works exclusively within the framework of Ukrainian legislation and does not send official documents via messengers with offers to perform dubious actions.

If a person discovers a website or page that may disguise itself as an SBU resource, or receives a suspicious message from a person posing as an employee of the special service, the information is offered to be passed on the short hotline number 1516. The SBU launched this number in April 2026; calls to it from landline and mobile phones of Ukrainian operators are free.
