NATO condemned Russia's nuclear rhetoric in response on Kaliningrad

Russia sent NATO an unofficial document (non-paper) about potential threats to its Kaliningrad region from Alliance member states and has already received a response condemning any threats of force. This was stated by NATO spokesperson Alison Hart, according to Європейська правда.

NATO responded to Russia's letter, in which it called its hybrid attacks "a sign of desperation".

"I can confirm that Russia sent NATO an unofficial document (non-paper) and that we sent a response in which we stated that NATO is a defensive alliance and none of our activities or exercises pose a risk to any part of Russia", – Hart stated.

"We strongly condemn threats of use of force, including any irresponsible nuclear rhetoric", – she added.

The NATO spokesperson said the Alliance called on Russia to stop its unprovoked war in Ukraine.

"Russia's use of hybrid tactics is a sign of desperation. But it will not make us abandon support for Ukraine. We have everything necessary to defend every inch of Alliance member territory, and we remain strong, ready and able to counter any threat", – NATO concluded.

As became known earlier, the Russian Embassy in Belgium sent NATO an "unofficial document" (non-paper) with a caveat regarding the Kaliningrad region.

After that, Lithuania called the new Russian threats regarding Kaliningrad psychological pressure.

As "European Pravda" reported, the EU is preparing a new emergency security protocol against threats from Russia, as well as a security strategy that will define Russia as the main security threat to the EU.

In addition, in connection with the intensification of Russia's hybrid attacks on Europe, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, together with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, plans to present a new security strategy that should complement Article 4 of the NATO Treaty.
