Another large data center in Kyiv completely stopped operations after Russian strikes
The Kyiv data center "Parkovyi" suffered critical damage as a result of a series of Russian strikes and completely ceased operations. It is now impossible to restore services at this site. This was reported by the company "Parkovyi".
The data center employees were not injured. The company also assured that client data is preserved and deployed on backup sites in the European Union.
Thus, the physical site in Kyiv ceased to exist as a working data center, but infrastructure backup abroad allowed avoiding loss of client data.
This is not the first facility of the "Parkovyi" complex that has stopped operations after a Russian attack. Previously, the "Parkovyi" congress and exhibition center suspended operations after damage to the building. At that time, the administration reported the need to conduct an expert assessment of the consequences of the strike.
The destruction of the "PARKOVYI" site continues a series of strikes on the capital's digital and telecommunications infrastructure. At the end of September, another Kyiv data center - DC|Cosmonova - also suffered critical destruction. After repeated strikes, the company concluded that they will not restore the damaged site, and began moving services to backup infrastructure.
During the same series of attacks, data centers and equipment of other operators suffered damage, and disruptions in internet access in Kyiv and the region affected tens of thousands of users.
After the attacks, the government has already announced the preparation of a new model for the protection of digital infrastructure. As wrote Kurs Ukrainy, part of the critical systems are planned to be placed underground, part to be transferred to cloud environments, and backup copies and capacities to be distributed among different sites, including abroad.
The situation with "Parkovyi" actually demonstrates the importance of such backup: the physical data center in Kyiv is lost, but the company claims that client data remains accessible on the backup infrastructure in the EU.
