Ghost of Kyiv pilot Marat Mambetov killed in action
Ukrainian military pilot, Captain Marat Mambetov, was killed on October 1 while carrying out a combat mission on one of the front line directions. His MiG-29 fighter was hit by a Russian missile.
This was reported by the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the military, Marat Redvanovych Mambetov was carrying out a combat sortie on a MiG-29, delivering missile and bomb strikes on Russian troops. During the mission, the aircraft was hit by an enemy missile.
The pilot managed to eject from the damaged fighter, but he could not be saved.
Mambetov held the rank of captain and was a flight commander of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade "Ghost of Kyiv". This Ukrainian tactical aviation unit had been involved in defending the country's airspace since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion.
The Air Force did not reveal on which particular section of the front the pilot was performing his final combat mission. Other circumstances of the MiG-29's downing also remain undisclosed.
"Marat defended Ukraine until his last breath," the Air Force noted, expressing condolences to the family and loved ones of the fallen pilot.
The MiG-29 remains one of the combat aircraft types used by Ukrainian tactical aviation. These fighters are used, among other things, for striking ground targets and performing other combat tasks.
Information about the death of Marat Mambetov and the circumstances of his final flight was also disseminated by Ukrainian media, citing the official statement from the Air Force.
