Russia strikes the Southern Bridge again, traffic on three bridges in Kyiv restricted
On the morning of October 2, Russian troops again attacked the Southern Bridge in Kyiv. After the new hit, the crossing was completely closed for vehicular traffic in both directions, and on two other bridges of the capital restrictions were introduced.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported the new hit at about 5:00. Information about the nature and extent of the new damage was not disclosed at that time.
Later the mayor reported changes in traffic on the bridges of the capital. According to law enforcement, the Southern Bridge is completely closed for transport in both directions.
In addition, on the Metro Bridge traffic was partially restricted: in the direction from the left to the right bank vehicles are allowed in one lane. On the Paton Bridge traffic from the right to the left bank was completely restricted. KMDA publishes information about changes in public transport routes.
Update: Public transportation in Kyiv is gradually resuming operations following traffic restrictions caused by the overnight Russian attack. According to Kyivpastrans, at 7:10 a.m., Bus No. 1M returned to its regular route, though it is currently running with schedule deviations.
As of 8:58 a.m., buses No. 51, 55, 115, and 118-D heading toward the right bank have also resumed service. They are once again following their regular routes, though with delays.
At the same time, significant traffic jams have formed on the capital’s roads due to traffic restrictions on the bridges. In some areas, traffic is so congested that some passengers are getting off the buses and continuing on foot.
This is at least the fourth attack on the Southern Bridge since October 1. The day before, Russian drones attacked this object three times during the day attacked. After one of the strikes, the city authorities reported damage to the bridge support, the crash barrier, the road surface, and the protective concrete barrier of the metro.
During the night attack, a residential building in the Darnytskyi district was also damaged. According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, a 25-storey high-rise building was damaged. One person was killed and two others were injured as a result of the strike.
