Russian strikes knocked out one of Kyivstar's data centers
Over the past ten days, Russia has attacked the infrastructure of Ukraine's largest mobile operator, Kyivstar, eight times. The strikes damaged, in particular, two of the company's data centers.
The president of Kyivstar, Oleksandr Komarov, spoke about the consequences of the attacks during the Forbes CEO Summit.
According to Forbes Ukraine, the Russian strikes damaged two of the operator's data centers. One of them is completely shut down, while the company is taking measures regarding the second to minimize risks and maintain the operation of the infrastructure.
These are not the first strikes on Kyivstar facilities in recent weeks. On September 27, during a Russian attack on the capital, the building of the company's main office in Kyiv was damaged. The operator's press service reported at the time that employees were not injured and the team is assessing the consequences of the strike.
Even earlier, on September 17, a Russian attack damaged a building in Kyiv Oblast that housed Kyivstar equipment.
The strikes on the operator are taking place against the backdrop of a broader Russian campaign against Ukraine's digital infrastructure. At the end of September, the Kyiv data center DC|Cosmonova suffered critical damage, and on October 1, the Parkovy data center reported a complete shutdown after a series of Russian strikes. Restoration of its Kyiv site is already impossible, but client data was preserved on backup capacities in the EU.
Thus, during September and early October, Russian attacks repeatedly affected offices, telecommunications equipment, and data centers on which the operation of communications and digital services in Ukraine depends.
