Another data center destroyed in Kyiv after Russian strike
A data center of dline.ua on Predslavynska Street in Kyiv was destroyed as a result of a Russian strike. Customer data and services were preserved thanks to migration to backup infrastructure.
The destruction was reported to Hromadske Radio by the company that owns the data center. As of October 1, the dline.ua site at 28 Predslavynska Street had been destroyed by a Russian attack.
The company said that all customer data and services were moved to backup sites. Thus, although the physical data center was lost, redundancy made it possible to avoid data loss and keep the services running.
This is already at least the third major Kyiv data center in recent days to report a shutdown due to Russian attacks.
At the end of September, DC|Cosmonova suffered critical damage. After repeated strikes, the company said it would not rebuild the destroyed Kyiv site and was moving part of its services to other infrastructure.
On October 1, the “Parkovy” data center also reported the complete shutdown of its Kyiv site. Restoring its services became impossible due to the scale of damage. At the same time, customer data was successfully preserved and deployed on backup facilities in the European Union.
Russian strikes are also affecting the proprietary digital infrastructure of major telecommunications companies. As reported, over ten days the infrastructure of “Kyivstar” came under Russian attacks eight times. Among the damaged facilities were two of the operator’s data centers, one of which was completely powered down.
Thus, during the second half of September and early October, Russian attacks repeatedly hit data centers, telecommunication equipment and other digital infrastructure sites in the capital. At the same time, the cases of dline.ua and “Parkovy” show that geographic redundancy of data and services makes it possible to keep them running even after the physical destruction of the primary site.
