Official dollar exchange rate sets a new record
For Tuesday, October 6, the National Bank set the following official rates: — US dollar – 45.0564 UAH (+0.0707 UAH to the official rate for Monday, October 5); — euro – 50.4830 UAH (-0.0503 UAH to the official rate for Monday, October 5).
The rates were set at 15:30 on October 5 and reflect the following trends:
1. Reacting to the continued rise of the dollar on the international FOREX market, the quotations of the cashless dollar on the Ukrainian interbank market broke through the psychological level of 45.00 UAH and went up, reaching 45.095 UAH during the day on the "bid" side. Thus, a new historical maximum of the cashless dollar value was set. The average transaction price at 12:00 was 45.0527 UAH – 6 kopecks higher than last Friday. After 14:30, demand on the interbank market began to subside, and quotations went down but stayed above 45 UAH. Therefore, the National Bank raised the official dollar rate for Tuesday by 7 kopecks. For the first time in history, the official dollar rate in Ukraine exceeded 45 UAH.
2. The euro on the international FOREX market on Monday first fell by 100 points – from 1.12612 to 1.11612 dollars, and then partially corrected its decline, rising to 1.12208 dollars. At the time of fixing, the euro was sold at 1.12044 dollars – 28.8 points lower than last Friday (1.12332 dollars). Therefore, despite the increase in the official dollar rate, the NBU lowered the official euro rate for Tuesday by another 5 kopecks.
The cash market could not help but react to what was happening on the interbank market: price tags in wholesale exchange offices also went up. If last Friday evening the dollar in Kyiv was sold at 44.80 UAH, then today by the evening – at 44.87-44.90 UAH. The dollar also became more expensive in other cities: in Lviv by 4 kopecks, to 44.94 UAH, in Kharkiv – by 9 kopecks, to 45.08 UAH, and in Odesa – at once by 15 kopecks, to 45.05 UAH. In many cities, already during the day the cash dollar selling rate exceeded 45 UAH.
Has the market finally overcome the level of 45 UAH or is a return below possible? The National Bank will answer this question tomorrow.
