Russia strikes Kharkiv with guided bombs: five dead, over 50 injured
Russian troops carried out a massive airstrike on Kharkiv on the afternoon of October 5. As a result of the attack with guided aerial bombs, five people were killed and another 53 were injured or sustained other trauma. There are children among the casualties.
The main strike hit the Slobidskyi district of the city. According to preliminary data from city and regional authorities, the Russian military used three guided aerial bombs. The impacts caused large-scale fires and destruction and damage to civilian facilities.
The death toll rose as debris was cleared. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that rescuers found the bodies of two victims under the rubble of a sewing workshop. After that, the number of those killed in the attack reached five.
The number of injured had risen to 53 by 5:55 p.m. According to Kharkiv Regional Military Administration head Oleh Syniehubov, they include three children. An 11-year-old girl is in serious condition, a 15-year-old boy is listed as moderate, and another 15-year-old girl suffered an acute stress reaction.
The Russian airstrike damaged dozens of residential buildings in several locations, a civilian enterprise, and at least 20 cars. The total area of the fires that broke out after the impacts reached almost 15,000 square meters.
The State Emergency Service previously reported hits on civilian enterprises and near a multi-story residential building. Warehouse and production buildings caught fire. Rescuers managed to pull two people alive from the rubble.
State Emergency Service units, emergency medical teams, police, and utility services are working at the impact sites. People continued to seek medical help even after the rescue operation began, so the number of injured increased several times during the day.
In addition to the guided bomb strikes on the Slobidskyi district, on October 5, the Russian military also attacked Kharkiv with drones. In particular, city authorities reported a combat drone strike on a gas station in the Kyivskyi district.
