EU to present membership ‘road map’ for Ukraine on 28 October
The College of the European Commission plans to approve ‘road maps’ for joining the European Union for the four most advanced candidate countries – Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine and Moldova – on 28 October, along with the annual reports on the progress of candidates for EU membership, according to Європейська правда.
This became known from an EU official familiar with the processes, on condition of anonymity.
On 28 October, the European Commission will present EU membership ‘road maps’ for Ukraine, Moldova, Montenegro and Albania as part of the presentation of the ‘2026 Enlargement Package’.
“Indicative ‘road maps’ on the path to EU membership for Montenegro, Albania, Moldova and Ukraine will be presented as part of the 2026 ‘Enlargement Package’”, – stated the source of ‘European Pravda’.
He added that the ‘road maps’ will be valid provided that the candidate states “maintain the pace of reforms”.
As reported by ‘European Pravda’, on 6 October the College of the European Commission approved a package of proposals for amendments to pre-enlargement policy reviews, which will allow new members, including Ukraine, to be admitted to the European Union.
‘European Pravda’ has already reported that the EU is also developing proposals according to which the four countries considered leaders in European integration – Montenegro, Ukraine, Moldova and Albania – will receive road maps to membership.
It was previously announced that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos will propose changes to the EU’s internal functioning mechanisms to ensure safeguards that will prevent new members from violating key policy areas or reneging on their commitments.
Marta Kos has previously presented four strands of changes in the EU enlargement process – internal reforms of the bloc, strengthened democratic safeguards, gradual integration and transitional measures.
