In the waters of the Black Sea near the Russian city of Sochi on the evening of October 6, a major fire broke out. Open flames and a tall column of thick black smoke are visible from the shore.

Videos from the scene are being circulated by local Telegram channels and eyewitnesses.

Judging by the published footage, the source of the fire is in the sea at some distance from the coast.

At this time, it has not been reliably established what exactly is burning. There is also no confirmed information about the causes of the fire, possible casualties, or the extent of the damage.

As of the time of publication, the Main Directorate of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for Krasnodar Krai had not posted a separate report about the incident in the Sochi waters.

On October 6, training firing was planned in the area of the Sochi seaport, but there is no data on the connection between the exercises and the fire.

The circumstances of the incident are being clarified.
