Poland first deployed Patriot in Lublin Voivodeship
Poland for the first time deployed batteries of Patriot surface-to-air missile systems in the Lublin Voivodeship, which borders Ukraine. The decision was made several weeks ago to strengthen the air defense of the eastern part of the country, said Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
According to the minister, the deployment of Patriot was agreed with the military command and is aimed at strengthening the defense of the region. Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that these systems had not previously been deployed in the Lublin Voivodeship.
The head of the Ministry of Defense announced the new deployment on October 5 during a visit to Świdnik. There he held a meeting with military and law enforcement representatives on the security of the region and the expansion of the Polish army's presence in the east of the country.
The decision was made against the backdrop of regular Russian air attacks on Ukraine, during which Poland has repeatedly scrambled combat aircraft and put air defense forces on high alert. On the same day, October 5, the government's Polish Security Center sent a warning to residents of the Lublin Voivodeship due to a Russian air attack on Ukrainian territory.
The Polish Ministry of Defense also reported strengthening air defense of strategic facilities and border infrastructure. Polish Patriot batteries are already deployed in the Lublin Voivodeship and near the ORLEN oil refinery in Płock. In addition, Dutch Patriot systems remain near the logistics hub in Jasionka, participating in the protection of the facility as part of the NATO mission to support Ukraine.
