Hungary has informed the European Commission that it will not implement the EU Temporary Protection Directive in the part that prohibits granting protection to persons with outstanding military obligations to Ukraine. This was announced by European Commission spokesperson Markus Lammert, according to Європейська правда.

Hungary will exercise its right to partially apply the EU Temporary Protection Directive in order to continue granting asylum to those fleeing Ukraine to avoid military service.

"Member states have the possibility to exercise a certain latitude when it comes to the application of the framework of the EU Council decision and the Temporary Protection Directive. This is provided for in Article 7 of the Temporary Protection Directive, and Hungary has informed us in this regard that it is making use of this possibility", Lammert said.

He recalled that the EU Council has ruled that "member states should, in principle, not grant temporary protection to persons who have recently arrived in the country and whom the Ukrainian authorities have not allowed to leave Ukraine due to their military obligations".

"Member states have a certain margin of discretion in implementing this decision, and this is the stage we are currently at", added Markus Lammert.

As reported by "European Pravda", Prime Minister Peter Magyar stated on September 3 that Hungary will continue to provide protection to Ukrainian men of conscription age, primarily Transcarpathians.

Recall that Ukrainian diplomats advise Ukrainians wishing to obtain temporary protection to have stamps placed in their passports when leaving Ukraine.
