In the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt, the parties "Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance" (BSW) and AfD are preparing their first joint substantive draft resolution. It provides for an end to German arms supplies and financial aid to Ukraine, as well as the lifting of sanctions against Russia.

This is reported by Der Spiegel. The draft document has also been obtained by the German news agency dpa.

The draft proposes to officially record the state parliament's position that the sanctions policy against Russia, arms supplies, and financial support for Ukraine have allegedly "failed."

The government of Saxony-Anhalt is to be called upon to use the political tools available to it, including launching an initiative in the Bundesrat, to bring about a change in the federal government's course.

In particular, BSW and AfD demand a focus on diplomacy, advocate for an immediate ceasefire, and the start of negotiations with Russia. At the same time, the parties are pushing for the restoration of Germany's economic relations with the Russian Federation.

To consider the initiative, AfD and BSW intend to convene an extraordinary session of the state parliament. As reported by MDR, both parliamentary groups plan to pass the document jointly thanks to their majority in the parliament.

BSW parliamentary group leader Thomas Schulze called the initiative a signal to the federal government in Berlin. However, decisions on arms supplies to Ukraine, foreign policy, and most sanctions mechanisms fall within the competence of the federal government of Germany and the European Union, so the state parliament's resolution on its own cannot stop such aid.

After the elections in Saxony-Anhalt, BSW stated that it does not intend to adhere to the so-called "firewall" policy towards the AfD and is ready to support proposals from other parties depending on their content.

Deutschlandfunk notes that the initiative will be the first joint substantive decision by the two parliamentary groups since the formation of the new state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt.
