The NBU is holding the dollar back on the interbank market, but the exchange rate in exchange offices is rising
On the interbank currency market on Thursday, October 8, the pattern of the previous day repeats. In the first half of the trading session on the interbank currency market, there is a balance of supply and demand. Trading is conducted in a narrow range of 44.825–44.845 UAH on the "bid" position.
At the very beginning of trading, the National Bank conducted a large currency intervention, selling more than 100 million dollars in 10 minutes. Thus, it prevented possible rush and signaled to the market its desire to keep quotes at the current level. The message was addressed primarily to exporting sellers, who have taken the habit of holding back sales of foreign currency earnings and entering the market only around 45.00 UAH and above.
The euro on the interbank currency market of Ukraine on Thursday is sold in a narrow range of 50.16–50.20 UAH on the "bid" position. On the international currency market FOREX today, the euro continues to fall after correction on Tuesday. At the time of writing, the euro has dropped to 1.1182 dollars.
Prices for cash dollars have risen slightly compared to yesterday. If yesterday wholesale exchange offices in Kyiv were selling dollars at 44.88–44.90 UAH, today – at 44.93–44.95 UAH. In Dnipro today, dollars are sold at 44.95 UAH, in Khmelnytskyi – exactly at 45.00 UAH, in Kharkiv and Poltava – at 45.05 UAH.
While wholesalers raise prices, banks, on the contrary, lower them following the decline on the interbank market. By 12:00, Ukrainian banks sell dollars at prices ranging from 44.90 UAH at the Kyiv branch of Poltava-Bank to 45.40 UAH at Zaporizhzhia Metabank. As for the euro, at the moment it can be purchased cheapest at 50.47 UAH at Raiffeisen Bank (16 kopecks cheaper than yesterday afternoon). The euro in Ukraine continues to cheapen, clearly following the trend in the global FOREX market.
