NBU lowered the dollar rate despite its appreciation at the end of trading
On Friday, October 9, the National Bank set the following official exchange rates: - US dollar – 44.8526 UAH (-0.0113 UAH against the official rate on Thursday, October 8); - Euro – 50.1569 UAH (-0.0184 UAH against the official rate on Thursday, October 8). The rates were set at 15:30 on October 8 and reflect the following trends:
1. The first half of Wednesday's trading session on the international currency market FOREX passed in a narrow range of 44.825-44.845 UAH on the "bid" position. The average price of transactions at 12:00 was 44.8329 UAH – 4.7 kopecks lower than yesterday. Buyers expected that after 13:00 the National Bank would enter the market with another intervention, and quotes would drop even lower. However, the NBU, although it appeared, sold little. As a result, some buyers had to buy dollars at sellers' prices. Because of this, quotes went up, rising by the close of trading on Thursday to 44.93 UAH on the "bid" position. Nevertheless, the average price did not change much, and the NBU lowered the official dollar rate for Friday by 1.1 kopecks.
2. The euro on the international FOREX market on Thursday fell to 1.11719 dollars; it failed to break below, as the expensive dollar was again being sold. At the time of fixing, the euro was sold at 1.11785 dollars – only 1.3 points lower than on Wednesday (1.11798 dollars). Therefore, in parallel with the reduction of the official dollar rate, the NBU lowered the official euro rate for Friday by 1.8 kopecks.
