OpenAI opens access to GPT-6 for free ChatGPT users
OpenAI has begun the global rollout of GPT-6 to all categories of ChatGPT users. Starting October 8, access to the new model will begin rolling out to free account holders and Go subscribers. At the same time, the company introduced a new response format with interactive elements.
This is according to OpenAI's official announcement of October 7. The rollout is gradual, so new features may not appear simultaneously for all users.
The main innovation is Intelligent UI technology, which allows ChatGPT to autonomously choose the response format depending on the query. Instead of plain text, the service can create interactive graphs, tables, diagrams, buttons, and other elements that can be worked with directly in the chat.
For example, a user can ask to calculate savings on a deposit, compare several products, or explain a complex mechanism. ChatGPT will be able not only to provide an explanation but also to create a calculator with the ability to change input data, an interactive diagram, or a visual comparison.
Another change is the speed of receiving responses. GPT-6 can start responding while continuing to analyze the query, and then gradually supplement the result with new data. Previously, for complex tasks, users more often had to wait for processing to complete before the response appeared.
According to OpenAI's internal testing, for queries involving searching the internet, GPT-6 Instant starts responding on average 44% faster than GPT-5.6 Instant. The company also claims improved accuracy in working with sources and the model's ability to determine when information needs additional verification.
Model availability depends on the plan. Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users get GPT-6 Sol, while Free and Go users get GPT-6 Luna. Both versions support the new interactive interface. For enterprise accounts, the availability of the update also depends on administrator settings.
The update primarily affects standard ChatGPT chat. Models used in specialized Work and Codex tools are not changing as part of this launch.
The first models of the GPT-6 family were introduced by OpenAI in September 2026 for paid users. The current update expands their availability to the mass audience. According to the company, over 1.2 billion people use ChatGPT weekly.
