Ukraine tightened electricity supply restrictions planned for October 9. Whereas the day before Ukrenergo forecast hourly outages of up to 2 stages, on Friday morning the company reported applying restrictions of up to 2.5 stages. Meanwhile, due to new Russian strikes, power outages were recorded in a number of regions, including Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast.

The change in the volume of restrictions was reported by NPC Ukrenergo in its morning summary on the state of the power system.

On the evening of October 8, the company announced that the next day, hourly outage schedules of up to 2 stages would be applied in some regions. Restrictions were planned for the whole day – from 00:00 to 23:59.

However, on the morning of October 9, Ukrenergo revised the maximum volume of restrictions upward – to 2.5 stages.

The company explained that such measures are necessary to prevent overloads of energy equipment damaged by Russian shelling.

For industry and business in some regions, capacity limitation schedules are also applied throughout the day.

Meanwhile, an increase in the maximum volume of outages does not mean that all consumers will be without electricity longer. Specific hours and duration of outages depend on the situation in a particular region and are determined by local distribution system operators.

New power outages in Kyiv and seven regions

According to Ukrenergo, as a result of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, as of the morning of October 9, new power outages were recorded in Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, and Kyiv Oblasts, as well as in the capital.

On the right bank of Kyiv and in Bucha and Vyshhorod districts of Kyiv Oblast, emergency power outages were introduced in the morning. DTEK received the corresponding order from Ukrenergo.

During emergency outages, previously approved hourly schedules do not apply. Meanwhile, on the left bank of Kyiv and in other districts of Kyiv Oblast, hourly schedules continue to be applied.

Energy workers are carrying out emergency restoration work where security conditions allow. The return to scheduled outages in areas with emergency restrictions will depend on the stabilization of the power system.

Electricity consumption increased

According to Ukrenergo, as of 09:30 on October 9, electricity consumption in Ukraine was 11.4% higher than at the same time the previous day.

Among the reasons are a decrease in forced outages in some regions, as well as cloudy and rainy weather in the west of the country, which reduced the efficiency of household solar power plants.

Consumers are advised to shift the use of powerful electrical appliances to the period from 11:00 to 15:00. In the evening hours, from 17:00 to 22:00, energy workers ask to use electricity as sparingly as possible and not to turn on several powerful appliances at the same time.

Ukrenergo emphasizes that due to the continuation of Russian attacks, the situation may change during the day. Current outage schedules should be checked on the official resources of regional energy companies.
