US President Donald Trump has settled on the candidate for the new White House press secretary. The position has been offered to conservative political commentator and communications specialist Katie Zacharia, who is expected to replace Carolyn Leavitt, who left in August.

This was reported on October 9 by Axios, The New York Times and The Guardian, citing sources in the US administration.

According to journalists, Zacharia has already been offered the position of White House press secretary, but it is not yet known whether she has accepted the offer. No official announcement of her appointment had been made at the time of publication.

Katie Zacharia serves as a senior communications advisor at Trump Media & Technology Group, the company that owns the social network Truth Social, used by Donald Trump.

Previously, she briefly served as a spokesperson for the US Department of Homeland Security. Additionally, Zacharia is known as a lawyer and conservative political commentator who regularly appeared on American television channels Fox News and Newsmax.

Prior to that, she also participated in the work of the Republican Party and was involved in political communications.

According to American media, Zacharia's candidacy was considered against the backdrop of personnel changes in the Trump administration. If finally appointed, she will be responsible for the White House's daily interaction with journalists, conducting press briefings, and explaining the president's official position.

Why the White House is looking for a new press secretary

The previous White House press secretary, Carolyn Leavitt, left the position in late August 2026 after the birth of her second child.

Trump announced her upcoming departure back in mid-August, noting that Leavitt would continue to work with his political team.

Leavitt became the youngest press secretary in White House history. At the time of her appointment at the beginning of Trump's second presidential term, she was 27 years old.

Prior to her work in the administration, she participated in Trump's 2024 presidential campaign and held various positions in the Republican Party.

After leaving the White House, Leavitt agreed to work with the Fox News channel as a political commentator. Her start in the new role is scheduled for November 1.

Thus, if Katie Zacharia's offer is ultimately accepted, the White House will have a new official spokesperson more than a month after the resignation of the previous press secretary.
