Trump proposes renaming an ocean in his honor
U.S. President Donald Trump floated the idea of renaming more bodies of water, particularly to name the Pacific or Atlantic Ocean after himself, according to Eurointegration.
As reported by "European Pravda", the American president's statement was quoted by The Washington Post.
During a rally in Clarksville, Tennessee, Trump said: "We have the Gulf. We have the beautiful lake. Now somebody said: 'You need a river'… We need a river. We need an ocean."
Trump mused about possibly renaming either the Atlantic or the Pacific Ocean, and appeared to jest that the new name could be in his honor.
"We'll call it 'Trump Ocean' or, or, 'Ocean of Americas', something like that", Trump said, drawing laughter and applause.
Last year, Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America", which sparked diplomatic tension with Mexico, a conflict with the Associated Press after that media outlet refused to use the new name, and other controversies.
In August, Trump also renamed Lake Ontario, located between New York and Canada, to "Lake of America". This move came amid a clash with Canadian leadership over trade and tariffs.
In his rally speech, Trump said he would not change the name of the Hudson River, which flows through his native New York state and is named after explorer Henry Hudson.
"He worked well and long on that river", Trump said.
The president also said he would not change the name of the Mississippi River, which defines the western border of Tennessee, adding that he has a special affection for the state because of the election results.
"I love Mississippi. We won that state by so much", Trump said.
Last month, Trump also proposed renaming the state of New Mexico to "New America". This would likely require action by the state and Congress, and last week the president said the decision on the matter "depends" on the people of New Mexico.
