Executives at European defense companies are stepping up personal security following warnings from intelligence services about potential Russian operations against top managers in the sector. This was reported by the Financial Times, citing representatives from the intelligence services of five European countries.

They believe Russian intelligence services are expanding covert operations in Europe, and among the potential targets are executives of companies involved in arms production and military support for Ukraine.

This is no longer limited to the largest defense concerns. Intelligence services are focusing particular attention on threats against small and medium-sized drone and drone component manufacturers.

Company executives are changing their lifestyle

Several top managers in the defense sector told the FT they had increased personal security following recommendations from government services.

Extra measures are being applied especially during travel. Some companies have started using private security firms.

In Germany, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) has also expanded its contacts with defense companies and recommends they pay more attention to protecting executives and employees.

Thus, a threat that until recently might have been perceived as a problem for a few particularly prominent leaders is beginning to affect the daily operations of a much wider circle of companies.
