President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on October 12 heard the report of the Ukrainian negotiating delegation on the results of meetings with representatives of the administration of US President Donald Trump. Kyiv confirmed its readiness for de-escalation and an end to strikes on energy infrastructure, but expects similar actions from Russia.

The head of the Ukrainian state announced this on social network X after discussing the results of the negotiations held on October 9–10 in Miami.

According to Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian delegation presented the results of meetings with American negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as well as information about daily contacts with the Trump administration.

"Ukraine is ready for real solutions and de-escalation steps to bring the end of this war closer," — the president emphasized.

He added that following the report, further diplomatic steps and the framework of the negotiation process were determined. At the same time, the president did not disclose the specific content of the new decisions or the timing of the next meetings.

Ukraine confirmed readiness for an energy ceasefire

One of the main issues of the negotiations remains the cessation of mutual attacks on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine and Russia.

On October 11, Donald Trump announced the achievement of an energy ceasefire. However, the US president did not provide details of the possible agreement, including a mechanism for monitoring compliance.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine supported Washington's initiative and is ready to fulfill its terms if the Russian side takes similar steps.

"The position is absolutely clear: Ukraine is ready to guarantee an energy ceasefire, as was announced by the President of America, and Russia must take corresponding steps," — the head of state stated.

At the same time, the president noted that as of October 12, the Ukrainian side does not observe Russia fulfilling the terms voiced by Trump.

Russia continues strikes on Ukrainian energy

According to Zelenskyy, Russian troops continued to attack energy facilities in Ukraine both on October 11 and 12, despite the American initiative.

The president said that air raid alerts were repeatedly declared in Ukraine during Monday, and Russian forces used Shahed-type strike drones and guided aerial bombs.

"If the strikes are Russia's response to the statement by the President of America, then this means that the Russians have missed another opportunity to bring peace closer," — Zelenskyy emphasized.

Earlier on October 12, the president reported that Russian troops had attacked six energy facilities on the territory of Ukraine.

The continuation of shelling, according to the Ukrainian leadership, indicates the need for additional guarantees for the implementation of a possible agreement.

Zelenskyy called on the US to increase pressure on Moscow

The President of Ukraine believes that the further prospects of the energy ceasefire largely depend on Washington's position.

According to him, the American side has capabilities for diplomatic and economic pressure on Russia, which must be used to stop the strikes.

"Much depends on the very position of America so that de-escalation finally works. Pressure on Russia is needed," — Zelenskyy stated.

He confirmed that Kyiv continues negotiations with American representatives at all levels.

"We continue to talk with the American side at all levels. We have determined further steps and diplomatic frameworks," — the president summarized.

Negotiations in Miami ended early

Meetings of the Ukrainian and American negotiating teams took place in Miami on October 9–10. Ukraine was represented by Head of the Presidential Office Kyrylo Budanov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, head of the parliamentary faction "Servant of the People" David Arakhamia, and diplomat Sergiy Kyslytsya.

Representatives of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and NATO also joined the negotiations.

The parties planned to discuss new American proposals to end the Russo-Ukrainian war, including a partial ceasefire, security guarantees, and post-war reconstruction issues.

However, according to media reports, the negotiations ended earlier than planned. This happened amid Trump's announcement of an agreement with Vladimir Putin on supplies of Russian diesel fuel to the American and world markets.

According to the Financial Times and Axios, the American side also sought to stop Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries. Ukrainian representatives opposed a unilateral restriction of such attacks without reciprocal obligations from Moscow.

European Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho on October 12 confirmed the European side's participation in the negotiations and emphasized that the European Union maintains full support for Ukraine.

At the same time, the parties did not announce reaching a final peace agreement or agreeing on specific ceasefire dates.

Thus, after the negotiations in the US, Ukraine retained its readiness for a diplomatic settlement and energy ceasefire, but Kyiv links further progress of the process to the cessation of Russian attacks and increased international pressure on Moscow.
