On the night of October 15, drones massively attacked Ryazan Oblast in Russia. As a result of the strikes, a fire broke out on the territory of the Ryazan Oil Refinery, one of the largest enterprises of the oil industry of the Russian Federation. A warehouse and cars were also damaged at another industrial facility in the city.

The consequences of the attack were reported by the governor of Ryazan Oblast, Pavel Malkov, whose statement is cited by the independent Russian publication Astra.

According to Malkov, the attack lasted at night and in the morning of October 15. A fire broke out on the territory of the oil refinery, and warehouse premises and cars were damaged at another enterprise in Ryazan.

According to preliminary information from the Russian authorities, there were no casualties. Emergency services are working at the sites of the strikes, and the assessment of material damage is ongoing.

Earlier, the Ukrainian monitoring channel Exilenova+ reported a possible fire at the Ryazan Oil Refinery. Local residents published footage from the area of the enterprise and reported explosions.

Due to the massive drone attack, the authorities of Ryazan canceled classes in schools and kindergartens in the Oktyabrsky and part of the Sovetsky districts of the city. In the morning, an air alert was declared in the region.

The Ryazan Oil Refinery is part of the structure of the Russian company Rosneft. It is one of the largest oil refining enterprises in Russia with a capacity of about 17 million tons of oil per year. The plant produces motor gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation kerosene and other petroleum products.

The enterprise has already been repeatedly attacked by drones, in particular in May and July 2026. After previous strikes, fires also broke out on its territory.

It is currently unknown which production facilities were damaged as a result of the new attack and whether it led to a reduction in oil refining. The Russian authorities have not disclosed these details.

The new attack came amid Ukraine's decision to resume strikes on Russian oil refineries after a three-day pause.

Earlier on October 15, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with the Financial Times that restrictions on strikes on Russian oil refineries are no longer in effect. According to him, Ukraine agreed to temporarily refrain from attacks as part of the energy ceasefire proposed by the United States, but Russia continued shelling Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

At the same time, there is no official confirmation from the Ukrainian military command regarding the hit on the Ryazan Oil Refinery during the attack on October 15 at the time of reporting.
